IV or Individual Value is different from base stats as they differ even in Pokemons of the same species and level. And these IV percentages are what decide your Pokemons Stars. Pokemon above 82 percent can gain three stars. And Pokemon below 50 percent have zero Stars. These IV points combined with your Pokemon’s stats decide its Overall Attack, Defense and HP. Pokemon GO: How to Increase Stars
The maximum IV value is 45 points, divided equally between Attack, Defense, and HP. Till 98 percent the badge that holds Stars will be yellow, but once your Pokemon Reaches 100 percent IV badge becomes pink. All the methods that are used for changing IV are random in approach. They can be positive as well as negative. So far, we are only aware of two methods that influence IV stats. The first is a trading method and the second is a purification method.
Now when you are using the trading method there are a couple of things you need to keep in mind to succeed positively. First, it is better to trade with a friend who has an Ultra or Best Friends level of friendship with you. As these mostly show a positive effect when the system randomly rerolls the IV stats of traded Pokemon. And if you become a Lucky Friend with the trader. The effect is even better, as both you and your friend might get their hands on Lucky Pokemon.
The second method is only applicable to Shadow Pokemon. And it would be of no use if your IV stats are not even 50 percent, as the increase is very little and there is a high chance of harming one of the stats perimeters. Especially the Defense bar.
