Yet you can access IG on a Desktop, which is why users have been curious to know if Threads can work on Desktops too. Being called the Twitter killer, the question also arises is it compatible with PC like Twitter?

Unfortunately, the answer is no. Threads do not work on Desktop or PC, unlike Instagram and Twitter. It is designed to be a mobile app. As the majority of the audience uses IG on their mobile phones, so will Threads users. However, do not get tricked by the web page URL available for it, as it will direct you to the mobile app. This is done to encourage more mobile downloads.

Luckily, it is available and compatible with Android and iOS, so no one will be left out. Threads is an informal form of Twitter, which does not require you to post important Tweets. The idea behind Threads is to be a fun conversation app at your fingertips. This is why it is best suited for mobile phones than desktops. It is not certain if the app will be made compatible with PC in the future, but as of now, Meta has made no such promises.

Unofficial Way to Get Threads on Desktop

There is a non-supported way to get Threads on PC which will require a little grinding.

  1. Windows 11 allows Android apps to run on a PC through the Windows Subsystem that is available in the Amazon Appstore.
  2. First of all, install the Amazon Appstore from the Microsoft Store.
  3. Sign up for updates for Windows Programs.
  4. You have to side-load and submit the Threads app to the Amazon Appstore.
  5. You can then install the Threads app from the App Store.
  6. Test and Debug the Threads app on Windows 11/Your PC.
  7. Enable the developer mode in the Windows Settings for your app to run smoothly.
  8. Check the device compatibility and properties.
  9. Lastly, check for troubleshooting issues.

If it works out, then you can use the Threads app on Desktop successfully. Do it at your own risk!
