The Hearts of the Faithful upgrade can grant a half heart to the player permanently. Players can use it twice and unlock an extra heart in the game.
In addition, players can also get increased maximum health during runs. However, this will vanish after returning to the base. Using tarot card upgrades from the shopkeeper or the chests is the best option to do so. The cards can either grant a Blue Heart or a Red Heart. While the Blue hearts grant temporarily health, the Red heart gives a permanent boost. Players can choose whichever option suits them the best.
