All Chrono Cross Remastered Censorship Changes

Here are all of the censorship changes made in the remastered Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition.

Square Enix has come out with a remastered version of the PlayStation 1 classic game, Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition. The game has brought up a lot of conversations about the changes made. Some of those changes include the censorship of various dialogues and clothing. With changing societal values and tolerance, it is only natural for the game to also look to fit in. Here is everything that we know about the censorship changes made to the remastered Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition game.

What Are the Censorship Changes Made to the Chrono Cross Remastered?

Chrono Cross Remastered: The Radical Dreamers Edition Censorship Changes

These are the changes in the remastered Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition game:

  • Conversations between characters are now clearer. The suggestive dialogues that were probably meant to be humorous have been changed. This is true for both, the English and Japanese versions of the game. Here is an example of the changes to the dialogue:
    • A character named Una tells his friend “Could you, like, break her in a little? You know, make her act a little more ladylike?” as a way for him to make his sister nicer to him.  But this is easily misconstrued to mean that he wants his friend to do something bad to his sister. Now, in the remastered Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition, he says “Could you like, make her be a little nicer to me?” making it clear that he means no harm to her.
  • Female characters will now wear shorts under their dresses as they run. To protect their modesty and keep players from looking in the dress as well. This will surely keep players looking forward to the journey that they take instead.

Most of the characters that are now conversing clearly as well as wearing the shorts underneath are young in age. And so, it may seem funny for a lot of people to hear a child say something offensive once in a while out of pure innocence. While this may be the reason for the original dialogue, we are living in a day and age where it isn’t as funny nor entertaining to do that.

The reason for the censorship doesn’t really come as a surprise to anyone. As PlayStation has been enforcing a global standard of censorship on Japanese developers. But more than the censorship of the remastered Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition game, players are more concerned about the performance of the game is worse than the original.

Can you Revert the Censorship Changes in the Game?

If you would like to go back to the old character models, you can always use the classic option. This will have the characters move and dress the same as their 1999 counterparts. So for those of you that enjoy the original more than the remastered version, you will get to play it as well.

What do you think about the remastered Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition censorship changes? Do you think it’s time that Japanese developers followed suit with PlayStation’s global censorship standards?
