Netflix Password Sharing has provided friends and family hours of fun sharing the same account. Often one friend’s Netflix account funded the whole friend group’s Witcher marathon. However, this might soon be a thing of the past. Netflix is planning to test run a new feature where primary account holders will have to pay an additional Password Sharing Fee if someone outside their household is using their account.

Explaining the move, Chengyi Long Director of Product Innovation at Netflix stated in a blog post, “We’ve always made it easy for people who live together to share their Netflix account, with features like separate profiles and multiple streams in our Standard and Premium plans. While these have been hugely popular, they have also created some confusion about when and how Netflix can be shared. As a result, accounts are being shared between households – impacting our ability to invest in great new TV and films for our members.”

What Is The Netflix Password Sharing Fee?

Netflix Password Sharing Fee is the additional cost that the company is planning to implement on users that share their passwords with viewers outside their household. This will be a sort of add-on mini membership within their Netflix Subscription. For now, the feature is going in its trial phase in three countries over the next few weeks: Chile, Costa Rica, and Peru. It is not yet announced when the feature will be carried out worldwide. Netflix is currently testing the waters in the specified countries.
